St. Augustine, FL – The Nation’s Oldest City
Not only is Saint Augustine the nation’s oldest city
It is extremely easy to fall in love with the city, with its cobblestone streets, cafes, bars, shops, and bed-and-breakfast inns. Many historical sites can be observed, from Fort Matanzas (a watchtower that served as a vantage point to see enemy vessels approaching), the Castillo de San Marcos (a fort that served to defend the city, made of a virtually indestructible type of limestone called coquina), and even Fort Mose, all of which served as the city’s defenses for many years. Tours of the city can also be utilized to explore the Colonial Spanish Quarter, the Lightner Museum, Flagler College, various churches, and other important buildings that played into the city’s rich history.
Today, St. Augustine continues to thrive and prosper with its rich heritage. Moreover, it is a good place for sports lovers, who can enjoy fishing, diving, surfing, and other activities along the many miles of beaches in the city.
